Friendly queerpositive home looking for new roommate as of Sept 1st
Previous   Next

Description

Friendly queerpositive home, located in Rosemont (De Bordeaux and De carrières), seeking new roommate for Sept 1st.

The room that is available is nice and big, with a big window that looks out onto our front garden and quiet street. Rent is $450 + utilities (negotiable). *There is also a medium size room with a big window available, so if 2 friends wanted to move in, that would make rent cheaper.

A bit about the house:

-It's a pretty big place, on a really quiet street, with nice neighbours and lots of kids running around in the alley! We have a backyard where we have BBQs and movie nights sometimes, a cozy living room and a nice, colourful kitchen. We also have a basement where we sometimes have dance parties, but mostly use to store bikes and other stuff.

-Roomies: We are 2 roomies. About us: Rea is a queer lady who just finished an undergrad in indigenous studies+environmental studies. She will be working in the fall. She is friendly and silly, while also being extremely responsible and clean. She really likes kittens (and is very sad that we don't have one!). She is also a bike-mechanic and is really into empowering people to take care of their own bikes!
Jess is also a queer woman. She works full time at a community org in villeray, working to support women who are unemployed and looking for work. When she’s not working, she’s dancing, or gardening, or making music, or sitting in a long (but awesome!) qpirg mcgill board meeting or taking ASL lessons.

We both really care about our home, so we like to put a lot of time and energy into making it a comfortable and clean space. We’re looking for someone who would be into this as well.

-House vibe: We are a chill bunch of folks. Since we have to work, we tend to go to bed on the earlier side during the week. We have dinner parties once in a while. We've recently just started a french-english language exchange group that will be meeting at our house once in a while, as well. We try to have house meetings every 2-3 weeks to check-in to see how people are feeling about the house vibe in general, but also about chores and cleanliness, etc.

-Anti-Oppression (sorry for the jargon): We strive to make our home a place where all kinds of people feel safe and good in. This means that we strive to be queer positive, trans positive, anti-racist and anti-oppressive in general. Concretely, this means that we won't tolerate someone being explicitly oppressive and will challenge ideas/behaviours that we deem to be oppressive (even if it's in a subleter way). We are into having discussions about this in an open and supportive way. we also try to be understanding of different needs people might have, and people's different financial situations. This is why we stagger rent and other costs.

-Food: we share food when it makes sense (baking stuff, oils/spices, etc.) and also have our own food. We are mainly a vege household, but some folks eat meat occasionally. We are totally open to adapting to people's food needs/restrictions.

- Finally, we are a really fun and friendly group of people! Come live with us!!!

If you are interested in checking the place out and learning more about us, please get in touch! Please send us a description of yourself, what you are up to in Montreal, and what kind of home you are looking for (including cleaniless standards ).
